Creating abstracted paintings is a liberating process for me, as a studio artist it allows me to freely move paint around the surface and explore the physical qualities of the medium to interpret my thoughts. These paintings refer to spaces occupied either mentally or physically while representing my emotive state while in these spaces.
Color, mark, shape, and texture guide the composition of my abstract pieces. Color theory is of great importance as emotional symbolism is utilized through particular hues. Marks and shapes which are created by either brush, palette knife, or gravity take on an organic movement within these pieces.
Thick paint application, collaged papers, and linework further build the visual structure of the piece as these textural qualities help to execute my concept.
